Frequently Asked Questions
This is actually the first question we ask ourselves about every potential client. The leaders we work best with are the ones who are ready to find where the no is for their programs, their team, their board, and their funders. If you’re not there yet, that’s okay. Helping you find the no is some of the most important work we do. But you have to be willing to look for it.
Book the 30-minute discovery call. We’ll figure it out together. We’re not trying to sell you an engagement—we’re trying to understand what you’re actually dealing with and whether we’re the right fit. If we’re not, we’ll say so and connect you to someone who is. We keep a short list of trusted consultants and nonprofit leaders we refer to regularly.
Yes. And they also expect you to fundraise, build partnerships, manage the team, represent the organization externally, and respond to this week’s crisis. The expectation that one person does all of that with no operational infrastructure is one of the sector’s most persistent myths. AAG doesn’t replace your leadership. We create the conditions for it.
If you have a contracted bookkeeper, a program director, and a board member filling in as de facto CFO—you have the pieces but probably not the connective tissue. What a fractional COO or Chief of Staff brings isn’t headcount. It’s the systems, decision structures, and operating rhythm that make everyone else more effective.
Most consultants specialize in one functional area: fundraising, communications, HR, finance. We are operations generalists with deep change management and facilitation expertise who work across the whole system. We start with your employees because that’s where organizational health actually lives. And we are not one-and-done—if we come in for a strategic plan or assessment, we expect the leader wants longer-term partnership, because change takes longer than one engagement.
No. We don’t manage donor relationships or write grant proposals. What we do is build the operational and storytelling infrastructure that makes fundraising possible—program playbooks, knowledge management systems, impact documentation. You can’t raise money for work you can’t clearly describe. We help you describe it.
We are AI-forward and proud of it. We use AI to increase the speed and quality of our work—which means you get more, faster, for the same investment. But AI doesn’t replace our thinking, our relationships, or our judgment. Human-centered first. The technology serves the mission.
Engagements are tailored to your organization and are highly dependent on your needs. We specialize in organizations with overall annual budgets between $1M and $10M, and we’re experienced in making solutions accessible to organizations of that size range. Book a call to learn what fits your situation.
Yes. AAG works with organizations nationwide. Most work is delivered virtually, with targeted on-site visits built in where they matter most.
You leave with documented systems, trained staff, and a transition plan. We are explicitly anti-dependency. Our goal is to leave you more capable than we found you—with clear policies, workflows, and playbooks that don’t evaporate when we walk out the door.
